Hello Dear Readers, have you missed me? It’s been a while between brunches! I started blogging about my Bottomless Brunch experiences with my friends for the joy of it. I love brunch. I love my friends. I love knowing how much my bill will be at the end of the meal including drinks, hence my love of Bottomless. But after a while writing became a chore, quite time consuming and letting the “camera eat first” every time took the enjoyment out of it. What had started out as fun had turned into unpaid work. So I took a break. Not from brunch of course, but from writing about it. This week I went out to Terrace on the Domain with friends and although I wasn’t going to blog about it when two High Tea-esque platters arrived at our table I was inspired and had to share it with you.

A few weeks ago I was out for my friend Kelly’s birthday and we discussed heading to the Kandinsky exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW. I suggested we have brunch also but where could we eat? I spoke to my friend Simon Food Favourites and he suggested Terrace on the Domain as an option. I live locally and my weekend walks quite often take me past there but I had never dropped in, not even for coffee! When I realised they also offered a Bottomless option I was sold.
I emailed them as I couldn’t choose the brunch option and found bookings cannot be made past 11.30am for brunch. I had been trying to book for 1.30pm post exhibition. We changed our plans and instead booked brunch for 10.30am. The day arrived and I walked from home in a bid to pre walk off brunch. I arrived right on time, however my fellow diners were already seated.

I had missed several texts from Kelly as I stepped my way towards the Domain.
We are on a table outside at the back.
Should I order Prosecco?
Have ordered Prosecco.
God bless her little cotton socks but she has known me long enough to know that ordering Prosecco is not a question and that yes is always the answer if indeed it is questioned. We weren’t 100% sure how long the bottomless was, so we asked. 1.5 hours we were informed. How much was the Prosecco a bottle I questioned after we quickly polished off one bottle between the four of us and ordered another. $ 70.00 per bottle. I looked to Kelly, “just double check while you’re going to the loo that we are on the bottomless because I think that’s probably the best value at $ 39.00 per person for 1.5 hours“. Luckily we were and of course all was right with the world. We ordered some orange juice because really you need to ease into your breakfast alcohol at 10.30 in the morning. It might have been nice if the meal had come with a carafe of OJ but we were all happy to pay for a glass each so we could top up our bubbly with juice and “pretend” it was a healthy breakfast drink.

Avocado on sourdough with zaatar, feta & bacon
This one is mine sans tomatoes.

Our waitress Georgia was fantastic. She asked for our dietaries, no raw tomato for me and Geoff was a no for the salmon. His eggs benedict came with mushrooms as a replacement which he said was delicious. Georgia was also very attentive with the prosecco bottles (which were left at the table) and made sure that all drinking vessels were never close to empty. When two large towers of food arrived at our table we were all quite impressed. Not only was there a huge amount of food but it all looked scrumptious, so we dug in. Unfortunately once those towers were in place there wasn’t a lot of room and cutting sourdough on small plates can be challenging at the best of times. Kellys hand slipped and most of her second mimosa ended up in my lap! The staff ran for extra napkins and speedily replaced my avocado and bacon on toast. Luckily I was wearing dark clothing or that could have been a disaster.

About half way through I asked for fresh glasses and we continued our drinks sans orange juice. All of the food was delicious. The yogurt rich and creamy, arancini cooked to perfection and last but not least the Tiramisu. I requested fresh plates for dessert and cut the two serves of tiramisu in half. I love a good tiramisu but I was surprised when my savoury loving friend reached for her half. Kelly does not usually like desserts but she said if she were having something sweet, tiramisu was one of her favourites. Mouthwatering and flavourful it had me craving a cup of coffee almost instantly. Kelly reached for the slice with her spoon and promptly dropped it into her lap. Some more water soaked napkins later and you could hardly see the brown smudge on her denim skirt.

As we were enjoying our last glass of prosecco we were informed by a new waitress that our time was coming to a close and our table was required for the next booking. It would have been nice to have been offered another table so we could have stayed a bit longer and ordered some coffees, but it was probably for the best as we needed to make our way across the road to the Art Gallery for Kandinsky. Definitely a great place to brunch/lunch pre or post gallery.
